1804 - The
Betts House was a simple 2-room house with
a box staircase in the north-west corner. The larger hall staircase was
added later, around 1840.
1810 - A two story brick
addition was made to accomodate the growing
family.
1811 - After the 1811 New
Madrid earthquake damaged the original Betts
House summer kitchen, a single story braced-frame kitchen was
constructed. The second
story room above was added about 1850.
1864 - The last major addition
to the house occured in 1864 as part of
an extensive modernization effort.
